A retrospective exhibit through the lens of Dutch-Canadian photographer Dick Groot. After a passionate start in photography in the Netherlands, Dick retired and moved to Nova Scotia, Canada. “We settled in Wolfville where I built my very own darkroom and got to work principally in the themes landscapes, street photography, industrial archeology and portraiture.” says Groot. While his subject interests have hardly changed over the years, he acknowledges evolving technology and the masters who inspired him as influences to his work.
A carefully curated selection of photos provides a glimpse into Dick’s career, spanning 65 years. “From Kodak Brownie to Smart Phone” opens at ArtCan Gallery on April. 17th, showing until May. 22nd.
*Update* Due to new restrictions, the exhibit dates will be extended until Saturday, July. 3rd. A tentative date of June. 26th is set for an art talk and book signing by Dick Groot, please call or email to reserve a spot. The book signing is scheduled for 1pm with limited capacity.
