Artist Statement
Theresa Macknights works mainly in series. The works she has contributed to this show are preliminary experiments which will become part of a new series called “Mammoth”, inspired by boulders and rock formations in the Bay of Fundy. They will become part of an exploration of the physicality of these rockweed covered “beasts” and the implications of time and tides on the shorelines where they, and we, live.

Trevor Novak
Biography
Trevor Novak is a visual artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He grew up in Toronto, Ontario and received an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics from Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario (2015) and a BFA in Ceramics from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (2017).
His art practice is focused on sculptural and digital creations that reflect the real and imagined worlds he lives in. This blending of realities exists both as context for his work and in the material languages he engages in. At the centre of his practice is a desire to make people laugh, and through light hearted imagery introduce the viewer to deeper, more uncomfortable subject matter.

Eva McCauley
Biography
Eva McCauley is a painter/printmaker, living in Bear River, Nova Scotia, her house built into a cliff overlooking a tidal river, in proximity to the ocean. The experience of living near the ocean had a profound impact on her work. Her work has become increasingly concerned with the impact of climate change, particularly in respect to the oceans.
She is known for vibrant, colourful paintings that seamlessly merge abstraction with figuration. Her paintings are enigmatic and evocative psychological takes on the traditional landscape genre.
Her work is included in collections such as the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ernst & Young Canadian Print Collection, Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, the UNB Art Centre Permanent Collection and the Nova Scotia Art Bank.

Bryson Chisholm
Biography
Bryson Chisholm is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in the Annapolis Valley, NS. He attended NSCAD University (BFA 2014) where he worked predominantly in photo and video work. He is the recipient of two Arts Nova Scotia Creation Grants and has contributed several pieces to the Nova Scotia Art Bank. In the past several years he has reconnected with painting and has also found relative interest in building miniatures. Although significantly different in his approach, his artistic practices have gravitated towards similar themes and have acted as a way to preserve and curate the importance of time and place for the artist. He has always been drawn towards deteriorating structures and unsightly pockets among his surroundings, observing how neglected spaces become personalized with shortcuts, forts, graffiti monikers and makeshift benches. He plays off the tension that exists at these locations, a strange back and forth relationship between what is being added and taken away.

Artist Statement
These are some recent smaller paintings. Lately I have been playing with depicting figures in landscapes in interrupted or complex ways. These works use surface textures as well as depictions of objects (curtains, paintings-within-paintings) to alter or truncate figures’ appearances. I’m trying to make figurative works that read less like portraits, more like stills in a narrative sequence.
